Shin Bo-Me

Shin Bo-Me ((ビルマ語:ရှင်ဘို့မယ်) (:ʃɪ̀ɴ bo̰ mɛ̀); also spelled Shin Bo-Mai) was queen to five consecutive kings of Ava. The queen was considered a great beauty. She was the favorite and chief queen of Minkhaung I.〔Harvey 1925: 93–96〕 She became the chief queen in 1407.〔Hmannan Vol. 1 2003: 486〕 She was also the favorite queen of Thihathu until Shin Sawbu became queen in 1424. In August 1425, Bo-Me engineered the death of Thihathu. She "married" the successor, 7-year-old Min Hla. Three months later, she poisoned the boy king and put her lover Kale Kyetaungnyo on the Ava throne, and again became the chief queen.〔Hmannan Vol. 2 2003: 57–58〕 In May 1426, Kyetaungnyo was overthrown by Mohnyin Thado, who subsequently made Bo-Me a junior queen.〔Htin Aung 1967: 93–94〕
==Ancestry==
The following is her ancestry as given in the ''Hmannan Yazawin'' chronicle.〔See (Hmannan Vol. 1 2003: 372). Her mother Salaka Dewi apparently married more than once; (Hmannan Vol. 1 2003: 404) Salaka Dewi, daughter of Swasawke was married to Sithu of Myinsaing.〕 She was a granddaughter of King Swasawke of Ava, and Kyawswa I of Pinya, and a great granddaughter of King Thihathu of Pinya and King Kyawswa of Pagan.
